Just like a sailor cannot learn to tame the waters by just studying about the ocean, similarly we cannot grasp a taste of life by just reading about it- we need to EXPERIENCE it! Keeping this ideology at the forefront, the concept of the ‘Human Library’ was curated. The faculty members of Sapphire International School want their students to grow by learning about real life journeys through interactions with living legends. One such meaningful interaction was with the Former Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare- Dr. Harsha Vardhan.

Multi-faceted, so multi layered

Dr Vardhan’s journey has been rich and filled with multiple dimensions. He started off as a scholar of medicine earning his masters in surgery, then he went on to become an active member of the Indian political scenario. Over the years he has been a Chairman of the WHO Executive Board, Minister of Health and Welfare and Minister of Science and technology. His roles in life have been varied  making him a multi-layered vessel of vast number of experiences. An interaction with him proved to be a humongous learning curve for the scholars.

An invigorating rendezvous

When one education expert meets a unique personality, the rendezvous is bound to be invigorating. Sapphire International School’s highly revered principal Ms. Vandana Midha paid a visit to Dr. Vardhan along with the scholars and exchanged a few words. Dr. Vardhan was extremely accommodative and welcoming to all the questions. His approach was humble and extremely spontaneous, giving students a vessel full of wisdom to take away with them.

Conclusive statements

The Human Library is not an attempt at replacing books completely with real-life experiences- but a blend of the two would be ideal. To make leaders for the future, a holistic approach is an absolute necessity. Taking pearls of wisdom from individuals who have unraveled various layers of the self in the pursuit of life is something that can nourish the beings of young learners. This is one of the paramount reasons why Sapphire International school has begun with this endeavor.
