Champions are driven by a strong sense of purpose and are committed to achieving their goals, no matter how challenging the path may be! Adrit Shukla, a student of class V at Sapphire is a true champion, who doesn’t give up easily and keeps moving ahead even in the face of the greatest obstacles! Adrit brought in laurels to the school by securing the second position and bagging a silver medal in the North Zone Taekwondo Championship- 2022.

Second Place is Just the Beginning

Adrit, currently a blue belt 1 holder, started learning Taekwondo when he was just 5 years old back in 2018. This is not the first time Adrit has won a silver medal in a Taekwondo tournament! He has not only competed in two tournaments before but has secured the second position in both! Even in the North Zone Taekwondo Championship- 2022 tournament, Adrit had to put up a tough fight! His competitors were red belt holders, the skilled masters of the martial art. Though the experience seemed a little unnerving initially, the words of wisdom of his coach struck him. “Belts do not matter. Skills do.” The second round was rather easy but again in the third round, he had to compete with red belt holders. His coach motivated him again to focus on the skills of his competitors. Adrit put his best foot forward in the game and won a silver medal in the competition!

Taekwondo training at Sapphire

At Sapphire, we do not just focus on the academic excellence of our students but believe in creating all-rounders through our holistic approach! Guided by the experts, we conduct weekly training sessions on Wednesday to build physical resilience, strength, discipline, self-control, flexibility among our students. Taekwondo is not just about upholding the spirit of competition. These sessions enable our learners to master the art of self-defense, a valuable life skill helping them emerge as brave leaders who can brave the odds with utmost ease! Overall, it is an impeccable way to ensure the physical mental and emotional development of the learners! Under the supervision of the coaches, the students learn new tricks and also practice basic kicks with important equipments like fand pads and power pads.

Igniting the passion

What made Adrit interested in the popular martial art? The action movies of Jack Black and Jackie Chan acted as the primary source of inspiration. Adrit requested his father to enroll his name in the Taekwondo academy in the society he lived in. When his father said yes, his excitement knew no bounds! This was the beginning of the incredible journey of Adrit. Further, the Taekwondo sessions in Sapphire encouraged him to master the skills in the popular martial art. The coach saw the potential in him and encouraged him to participate in several competitions. Adrit was trained by the best and took this up as a challenge to learn new skills and evolve. For him a competition was a wonderful opportunity for personal growth, regardless of the outcome!

The power of persistence

Adrit first represented our school back in 2019 when he was just in class 3! He was green belt holder then and had to compete with blue belt holders! But this did not dampen his spirits or deter him from his mission. Although it was his first competition, he put up a tough fight and ended up winning a silver medal! This silver medal acted as the springboard of unparalleled success and encouraged him to push himself to reach even greater heights! With his indomitable spirit and unflinching passion, Adrit learnt from his experiences and bounced back stronger and even more resilient! He does not just participate in competitions but like a true leader, teaches the important skills of Taekwondo to his juniors whenever his coach is busy!

The journey ahead..

Like a true Sapphirian, Adrit is unstoppable when it comes to accomplishing his goals! Adrit is multi-talented and dons many hats! He loves painting and even writes poetry and stories both in English and Hindi! He idolizes the missile man of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and wants to do something meaningful for the country. When he grows up, he also wants to be a scientist at the Defense Research & Development Organization (DRDO). Besides, Adrit wants to be a blackbelt holder and even aspires to win a gold medal for our country in the Olympics! He has million dreams in his eyes and his willing to put in the time, effort, and dedication required to achieve his goals.

It serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and acts a reminder to never let setbacks define us!
